Hello!
I am a first year PhD student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Toronto. My research interests are primarily in sociophonetics, heritage languages, and community-based approaches to language reclamation.
My current work centers around the participation of heritage Korean speakers in vowel shifts occurring in homeland speakers. I additionally participate in theoretical and documentary work on ʔayʔaǰuθəm, a Salish language spoken in British Columbia, and Woleaian, an Austronesian language spoken in Yap State, Micronesia.
I also focus on the role of technology in contributing to domains of language use, particularly for diaspora populations. This research centers around the creation of online talking dictionaries and mobile-friendly orthographies to promote and sustain language use.
